PMC Corporation was established in 1979 as a sales organization which represented several manufacturers of complementary temperature measuring product lines, including thermocouples and thermocouple wire and cable. During the early 1980’s the company began to support its commissioned sales activities by distributing related products and on a limited basis started to manufacture thermocouple and cable. In 1982, PMC acquired the assets of Monadnock Wire and Cable and changed its focus to that of a manufacturer of the products it sold. By 1984 the company had become a full line manufacturer of thermocouple wire and cable and moved its company into a facility located in Londonderry, NH.

In October of 1985, PMC acquired the assets of the Albert H. Surprenant Company. This transaction broadened the scope of the company’s product line to include certain electronic wire and cable items. In September of 1991, PMC expanded its operations to the west coast when it acquired Thermocouple Design Company of Pomona, CA. This acquisition further broadened the company’s product offering by adding thermocouples, RTD’s and related accessories to its temperature measurement product line. Additionally this afforded PMC the opportunity to set up a distribution center to support west coast customers. In June of 1992, the west coast operation was moved to Anaheim, CA. In August 1996, PMC purchased a 100,000 sq. ft. building located in Manchester, NH. Extensive renovations were required to transform the building into its current condition. PMC moved both Londonderry operations into this building in April 1997 upon completion of the renovations.

In 1999, Rockbestos-Surprenant Cable Corporation acquired the assets of PMC Corporation. Today PMC operates as a division of Rockbestos-Surprenant Cable Corporation. R-SCC is a world leader in the design and manufacture of insulated high performance control, power instrumentation and specialty electrical cables. The Company continues a tradition of excellence begun more than eighty years ago. It is committed to meeting the most demanding customer requirements through innovative design, excellence in manufacturing, and unequaled customer service.

Rockbestos-Surprenant was established when the two individual companies were combined as an entity now a member company of the Marmon Group. Already a Marmon Group member since 1976, Rockbestos was founded 80 years ago in New Haven Connecticut. Surprenant was founded 60 years ago in Clinton, Massachusetts. The combination of these two companies has created the largest specialized low-voltage cable manufacturer in North America.

Products and Markets
AQSR AS9100 ISORockbestos-Surprenant are experts in thermosetting and thermoplastic technology. They specialize in engineered products resistant to the effects of chemicals, extreme temperatures, radiation, moisture, corrosion, flame, and other use hazards.

Over the years, numerous high-performance proprietary products have been developed to meet those needs: Firewall III, Exane, X-Link TC, Heatzone, Firezone, and Gardex are examples. This broad range of company products has led to significant experience in providing service to industries requiring wire and cable for demanding applications.

Their cables successfully perform on the ground, on the sea, in the air and space. They are installed in cable trays in paper mills; utilized along the frozen Alaskan tundra; suspended on offshore oil platforms; pulled through conduit in railroad tunnels and transit systems; installed to the intense heat of both the steel and glass making industries; operate in aircraft, spacecraft, and mining machines; and have even traveled to the moon. Reliable performance in the most demanding environments is our trademark.

The Marmon Group, an international association of more than 60 autonomous manufacturing and service companies with sales of more than $6 billion, includes several companies that manufacture and market wire and cable. Together, those companies sell more than $700 million in wire and cable. Since 1994, three companies have been acquired, including Harbour Industries, Inc. (1994). Hendrix Wire & Cable, Inc. (1996) and Surprenant Cable Corp. (1996), strengthening significantly The Marmon Group’s presence in the wire and cable industry.
